Today - Amplify Our Letter Success!

More than half of IAPE members signed this letter calling for a higher wage proposal from Dow Jones, with over 600 names signed ink-to-paper.

(If you didn’t get a chance to sign you can still add your electronic signature here.)

Today, let’s boost social media to show Dow Jones that IAPE members need more from the company on wages.

Here are two different ways you can support:

  1. Retweet/like this IAPE tweet.

  2. Tweet out the above image with our suggested language:

  • Proud to stand with over 665 @IAPE1096 members who signed this letter to our @DowJones CEO. We have all earned a raise that is more than what we’ve accepted in bad times and more than the increase in the cost of living. www.iape1096.org/worth-more #IAPEstrong

  • We are certain our hard work has given Dow Jones the “distinctive ability to prosper in the digital age.” And over 665 @IAPE1096 members signed on to ask @WilliamLewis to honor those contributions. www.iape1096.org/worth-more#IAPEstrong

  • I am proud to have contributed to the success of @DowJones and would like to see that success reflected in a wage proposal for my union. We all deserve better. www.iape1096.org/worth-more #IAPEstrong

P.S. Remember to have your t-shirt ready for tomorrow!

  • Princeton - we’re meeting at 9:45 a.m. at the elevators by the passageway to Building 1.

  • New York - we’re meeting at 1:30 p.m. outside 1211 on 6th Ave side!

Your Voice, Our Capital

We are in the home stretch of negotiations for a new contract with Dow Jones. We are nearing the end of our 60-day extension and our aim is to close a deal that reflects the value of the company’s best asset: our members.

Now is the time to show your capital by raising your voice in support of higher wages.

Here are the three things we need you to do next week:

  1. Stand by for social media for Monday 10/28:

    • Keep your eyes on our twitter to like/retweet.

    • We’ll be sending around some graphics and suggested language for folks to create their own tweets on Monday.

  2. Change your profile picture on your DJ slack, gmail, and twitter:

    • Right click on the image here to “save image as”. Save somewhere you will remember. Then go to your settings in each of the platforms to change your profile picture and upload.

  3. Have your shirt ready for what could be our last T-shirt Tuesday:

    • Princeton/SBK - We will be gathering for a photo and to rally the bargaining team at 9:45 a.m. at the elevators by the Blg 1 walk-thru.

    • NYC/1211 - We will be gathering for a photo at 1:30 p.m. outside in front of 1211. (The 4th floor won’t fit all of us this time. If you were in the photo this week, still plan to come to show our numbers growing!)

    • We are still gathering small group and individual photos from all offices to circulate on social media. So please organize on your own and send it to stefanie.frey@iape1096.org to be added to our social media channels. You can also post it on your own and tag @IAPE1096 on twitter, instagram, or facebook.

    • We understand not everyone can wear their IAPE shirt for the whole work day. Please pull it over the back of your chair to show your support for the remainder of the day.

Today - Tweet for T-shirt Tuesday!

Here’s a quick way to show your support today: let’s boost social media as the bargaining committee heads back to the table.

Here are three different ways you can do that:

  1. Retweet/like this IAPE tweet.

  2. Tweet out with our suggested language:

    • It’s T-shirt Tuesday for @iape1096 members. I’m wearing my shirt today because I deserve a quality contract. #IAPEstrong

    • @IAPE1096 members have earned a raise that is more than what we’ve accepted in bad times and more than the increase in the cost of living. We are the capital @dowjones. #IAPEstrong

    • Proud to be an @IAPE1096 member today as my bargaining team continues to make the case for the raise we all deserve. We are the company’s greatest asset. #IAPEstrong

  3. Post a group photo or selfie in your shirt. Be sure to tag @IAPE1096 and use hashtag #IAPEstrong so we can retweet/like from the IAPE account!

P.S. Members in NY - reminder to meet on 4th floor for the group photo in our shirts!

Important Action Items This Week

As you saw in the bargaining update from Friday, "the company asked us what capital we have to offer them. We have an answer: It’s us. We are the company’s greatest asset." As we head into the final two weeks (before the contract extension expires 10/31), we need to ramp up our mobilization. This is the moment for us all to show solidarity.

Here are the three things we need you to do this week:

  1. Change your profile picture on your DJ slack, gmail, and twitter:

    • Right click on the image here to “save image as”. Save somewhere you will remember. Then go to your settings in each of the platforms to change your profile picture and upload.

  2. Have your shirt out tomorrow for T-shirt Tuesday:

    • NY/1211 - We will be gathering for a photo at 12:30 p.m. on the 4th floor in couch area by the Midtown Meeting Room. (close to the stairwell down to the 3rd floor)

    • We understand not everyone can wear their IAPE shirt for the whole work day. You can pull it over the back of your chair to show your support for the remainder of the day.

    • We are still gathering small group and individual photos from all offices to circulate on social media. So please organize on your own and send it to stefanie.frey@iape1096.org to be added to our social media channels. You can also post it on your own and tag @IAPE1096 on twitter, instagram, or facebook.

  3. Stay tuned for more:

    • There are meetings in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Washington D.C. this week! Members there should plan to attend to hear about other important actions we have planned this week.

    • Members everywhere will also be hearing more throughout the week!

    • Keep your eyes on our twitter to like/retweet throughout the week.

Reminder on t-shirt Tuesday...

Tomorrow, IAPE is headed back to the table with Dow Jones with a response that recognizes your value. Please plan to wear/display your new IAPE shirt throughout Tuesday to support the bargaining committee in that response.

We understand not everyone can wear their IAPE shirt for the whole work day. You can drape it on the back of your chair to show your support for the bargaining committee.

We are still gathering group photos (small and big groups welcome!) to circulate on social media. So feel free to organize a group shot on your own and send it to stefanie.frey@iape1096.org to be added to our social media channels. You can also post it on your own and tag @IAPE1096 on twitter, instagram, or facebook.

For members in New York—we’ll have final pickups on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on the 4th floor by the internal stairwell down to 3. We will also be in the Midtown meeting room on the 4th floor from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m with pizza.

T-shirt Tuesday today in support of fair increases!

As you saw from the bargaining update on Friday, the company offered the union 2% annual salary increases for the next three years. This T-shirt Tuesday, we ask members to wear their shirts or to display them at their desks for the day to show management that you support the bargaining committee as we fight for a fair contract.

We are certain your hard work has helped give Dow Jones the “distinctive ability to prosper in the digital age” and we will continue to push for an annual compensatory increase that truly recognizes your value. We think we’re worth more.

Many of you have already shared your stories of financial sacrifices you have made because of low salary increases over the years. We know members have had to work second and third jobs, move, sell cars, and ration money for their own medical needs. Please fill out this submission form if you also have a story to share.

We understand not everyone can wear their IAPE shirt for the whole work day. You can drape it on the back of your chair to show your support for the bargaining committee.

We are looking to gather more group photos (small and big groups welcome!) to circulate on social media. So feel free to organize a group shot on your own and send it to stefanie.frey@iape1096.org to be added to our social media channels. You can also post it on your own and tag @IAPE1096 on twitter, instagram, or facebook.

It has been 67 days since we gave management our proposal on wages. The bargaining committee needs your help to increase the pressure so we can finally get a response.

We understand not everyone can wear their IAPE shirt for the whole work day. You can wear it to the group photos we’ve planned around the offices and drape it on the back of your chair for the remainder of the day to show your support for the bargaining committee.

If you didn’t preorder a shirt or pickup your shirt yet, no worries. We ordered enough for everyone and here are some instructions from our organizers across the country on how to secure yours:

Action Item: Create More Visibility

Today we started distributing IAPE buttons and stickers around all of the offices. We are asking members to wear or display them as we continue bargaining this week. We need all our members to come together to increase visibility throughout the offices for management to see that we deserve a quality contract.

Here’s how you can make that happen:

  • Wear your button in the office on your lanyard or bag. Laptops and notebooks are a good place to display your sticker.

  • Check in with your union peers and make sure they’ve gotten their IAPE gear. Email Stefanie Frey at stefanie.frey@iape1096.org if you need more in your area.

  • If you haven’t done so already, make sure you check out last week’s action item where we asked everyone to display support at our desks by changing your desktop & screensaver image.

Action Item: Displaying Support at Your Desk

This week we are asking members to change their desktop wallpaper and screensaver to our campaign image. Let's keep these active throughout the rest of bargaining to continue spreading the word that "quality news deserves a quality contract."

Here are some quick instructions to guide you:

  • Go to this link.

  • Right click to save image. (Remember where you saved.)

  • To set as background image:

    • Right click the image that you saved to "Set as desktop background".

  • To set as screensaver:

  • Go to your display settings in your start menu. (Could be under "Personalization" or "Display")

  • Go to "Lock Screen" or "Screensaver".

  • Under "Background" click "Picture" and browse to find the campaign image.

Next week we will be rolling out new buttons/stickers that we can all wear in solidarity with our bargaining committee.

We recommend wearing the buttons on your lanyards and bags. Laptops and notebooks are a good place to display your stickers.

Stay tuned for more on other ways to support as we continue.

3 Simple Ways to Support & T-shirt Request

IAPE members deserve a quality contract and we still have some work left at the table before we reach that goal. The headway we’ve made over nearly three months of negotiations is in part thanks to members coming together to show management we are a united front in our needs. While the bargaining committee has been focused on crafting thoughtful advancements to our contract, visible support and participation from our fellow members is just as essential to our success.

Here are 3 simple but impactful ways for you to participate:

  1. Include IAPE in your email signature:  IAPE LOCAL 1096: WE POWER DOW JONES

  2. Show your support on Twitter, by tagging @iape1096 or #IAPEstrong in your profile

  3. Use and keep your IAPE mug at your desk

Also in Wednesday’s bargaining update, we announced our next swag order. We are in the process of ordering t-shirts (as well as some other items) for all members. Request a t-shirt size & color by next week to help us finalize our counts. And stay tuned for upcoming events in your location to grab some new IAPE gear and to hear the latest news from the table!
