National Town Hall on Press Freedom
/National Town Hall on Press Freedom
IAPE’s parent union, The NewsGuild-CWA, along with The National Writers Union, NABET-CWA, PEN America, Reporters Without Borders (RSF), Freedom of the Press Foundation, and the National Association of Black Journalists, will be sponsoring a National Town Hall on Press Freedom.
Journalists are being targeted by the government for their reporting, press access to the White House is increasingly restricted and the President is going after news outlets that do not report favorably on the administration. This National Town Hall is an opportunity for journalists, readers and members of the public to come together in defense of press freedom—a public conversation at a moment of crisis. Journalists don't usually get to tell their own stories. This town hall is an opportunity to hear from journalists who have been targeted for doing their jobs.
This National Town Hall is open to everyone, whether or not you are a journalist. If you would like to attend, you can register here. It will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at 7:00 p.m. ET via zoom.
First IAPE 101 of 2026
If you were recently hired by Dow Jones, or if you transferred from a non-union position into your current role sometime over the past year, and if you ever wondered where you can go to find out more about this thing called IAPE, we have a suggestion:
Next Wednesday, Jan 14 at 2:00 p.m. ET, join us for this Zoom presentation and learn more about IAPE. We’ll cover all the basic questions: what is a union? How did you end up in a union? And most importantly, what are the benefits of being in a union?
If you can stick around beyond the first half-hour, we’ll open the virtual floor for any questions you might have. IAPE veterans, you’re welcome to join, too.
To register and receive your Zoom invitation, sign up through the IAPE Events page.
