Thinking of Selling Vacation Time?
/Do you have an extra week of vacation time you’re not able to schedule this year? Is your salary $78,000 or less? You might not need to let that week expire at the end of the year. Article IX of the IAPE/Dow Jones contract provides the ability for some members to sell vacation time back to the company.
Section E of that Article states, “An Employee who is entitled to at least three weeks of vacation and whose compensation is $1,500 per week or less will be granted one week's pay in lieu of one week's vacation at the request of the Employee.”
If you qualify and you want to sell a week of vacation time, inform your manager and contact your Dow Jones People business partner.
If you’re paid more than $78,000 per year (remember: that’s gross pay, not net), sorry, this benefit does not apply to you. And unless you work in California, Colorado or Ontario, your unused vacation time is likely to expire at the end of the year. Remember to schedule your vacation time in 2026!
Holiday Pay Follow-Up
Just before last month’s Thanksgiving and Day After Thanksgiving holidays, IAPE reminded members who were required to work on those days to file for Holiday Pay. We also mentioned that members assigned to work during holidays on what would normally be their scheduled day off are entitled to 2X pay for all hours worked.
Here’s the problem: Workday does not have an option for filing for 2X pay when you work on a day-off holiday.
If you were assigned work on U.S. Thanksgiving, the Day After Thanksgiving, or any IAPE contract holiday (See Article VIII-A or VIII-B), and if that holiday falls on a day that would otherwise have been your regularly scheduled day off, you must contact your Dow Jones People business partner to arrange for manual processing of your extra pay.
Or contact IAPE, we can arrange this for you.
