Contract 101: All About Your PTO

Also, Guild Trainings: Know Your Rights and Digital Security for Journalists

Hey. We have a question for you: how many vacation days do you have this year?

Not sure? You’re not alone.

Paid time off: it’s the area of contractually-required compensation overlooked most often by IAPE members. Want to make sure you’re receiving all the vacation days, personal days, days in lieu of holidays, and other forms of leave you’re entitled to? Join us tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. EST for IAPE Contract 101.

In this half-hour Zoom class, IAPE reps will explain several different types of PTO and how you can determine your 2026 eligibility. Some forms of time off are clearly defined in the IAPE contract, while others are contained in the DJ Employee Handbook. We’ll explain that, too.

And as an added bonus, we’ll even spend a few minutes talking about IAPE pay scales.

To receive your invitation to attend, register at the IAPE Events Page. See you tomorrow!

You’re Invited to NewsGuild Trainings!
IAPE’s parent unions, The NewsGuild and Communications Workers of America, are teaming up to provide a “Know Your Rights” town hall to learn lessons from Minneapolis. This remote session will take place at 8:00 p.m. EST on Wednesday, Feb. 25. Learn more about your rights on the job as a union member and as an individual if ICE shows up in your community or home. Register here.

The Guild is also sponsoring a digital security training for journalists on Thursday, Feb. 26 in the wake of a January raid on the home of Hannah Natanson, a Washington Post reporter and Guild member. The situation underscored the growing risks journalists face and the urgent need for stronger digital security.

This 90-minute training will start at 2:00 p.m. EST on Thursday, Feb. 26 and will be led by the Freedom of the Press Foundation. You can register for the training here.
