Don’t Forget to Vote!

The deadline to cast your vote on new IAPE Bylaws is Thursday at 11:59 a.m. EST. All eligible members should have received a TrueBallot invitation to vote in this online referendum. If you can’t find your invitation to vote, or if you aren’t sure whether you received a ballot in the first place, contact the IAPE Election Committee: elections@iape1096.org.

Town Hall meetings to discuss work produced by the IAPE Bylaws Committee have concluded, but you can still review the Bylaws Q&A document explaining why a Bylaws update is necessary. And if you have questions for the IAPE Committee, you can send those to union@iape1096.org.

The Guild Says No AI Slop!
IAPE’s parent union, The NewsGuild-CWA, has launched a national campaign, “News, Not Slop,” to bring awareness to the fight to bargain for and win protections around artificial intelligence so readers can trust the news they receive.

Throughout this week of action, TNG will have social media posts highlighting contract wins across the country. Join TNG at noon each day this week, at the hashtag #NewsNotSlop, to tell your own stories about AI and support the fight to restore trust in the news.

TNG has more tips and requests for IAPE members:

1. Visit the campaign website, www.newsnotslop.org, where you can read TNG-CWA Demands on the Use of Artificial Intelligence,

2. Catch up on coverage of Guild wins in national media outlets, and more.

3. TNG is also launching an Action Network petition to tell news organizations that we don’t want AI slop in the newsroom.

4. Join fellow Guild members for our AI Town Hall on Thursday, December 4th at 6 pm ET! Register here.

Tomorrow: IAPE 101
If you were recently hired by Dow Jones, or if you transferred from a non-union position into your current role sometime over the past year, and if you ever wondered where you can go to find out more about this thing called IAPE, we have a suggestion:

Sign up for IAPE 101.

Tomorrow—Wednesday, Dec. 3—at 2:00 p.m. EST, join us for this Zoom presentation and learn more about IAPE. We’ll cover all the basic questions: what is a union? How did you end up in a union? And most importantly, what are the benefits of being in a union?

If you can stick around beyond the first half-hour, we’ll open the virtual floor for any questions you might have. IAPE veterans, you’re welcome to join, too.

To register and receive your Zoom invitation, sign up through the IAPE Events page.
