Sandy Relief

IAPE's parent Union — the Communications Workers of America — has created a fund to assist Union members who suffered losses as a result of Hurricane Sandy.

The goal of this program is to "assist our sisters and brothers who have suffered losses or hardships in ways other than to their primary home." Benefits paid from this fund will depend on donations from CWA Local Unions and their members.

The IAPE Board of Directors has voted to make an immediate contribution of $1,000 to this fund, and has authorized an additional payment of up to another $4,000 to match donations from IAPE members made through the end of 2012.
In other words, IAPE will match what you donate. And some of our members — perhaps your coworkers — who live in New York and New Jersey will benefit directly from your generosity.

Please send your check or money order, in any amount at all, payable to the "CWA Disaster Relief - Hurricane Sandy Fund" to the IAPE office:

IAPE TNG/CWA Local 1096
5 Schalks Crossing Road
Suite 220
Plainsboro, NJ 08536

IAPE staffers will forward checks to CWA at the end of each week. And we'll post regular updates of donation totals on the IAPE website, our Facebook page, and our new Twitter feed.

How To Apply:

If you suffered losses as a result of the storm, you may be eligible for assistance from three, separate Union-supported funds. Benefits from this Sandy-specific fund will depend on the donations received from members, as mentioned above. However, CWA also offers subsidies of up to $1,000 to members in good standing through its "regular" Disaster Relief Fund, to cover essential losses associated with your primary home.

To apply for assistance from both CWA funds, drop us a line and we'll deliver an application form to you right away.

IAPE members who hold the Union Plus credit card, or participate in either the mortgage or insurance program from Union Plus, are also eligible for disaster grants of $500. Information on the Union Plus Assistance Program is available at http://www.unionplus.org/disaster-relief/sandy-october-2012.
