DJ Outsourcing. The Mailroom

The Dow Jones infatuation with outsourcing continues: this time signing a contract with an outside vendor who will take over mailroom operations in New York, Harborside and South Brunswick.

Under the terms of the contract, each victim of outsourcing will receive enhanced separation benefits.

IAPE-represented mailroom employees will receive the severance each has earned over the years (with a minimum of 6 weeks) AND another 4 weeks' of severance along with 9 months of medical and dental coverage and an enhanced $12,000 retraining allowance.

IAPE disagrees with the company's decision to outsource the mailroom operations — and we have made the obvious arguments about the reliability and security afforded by keeping a Dow Jones operation a Dow Jones operation. I believe this is a move simply designed to save a few nickels-and-dimes — the kind of move that has become so common in the newspaper business lately.

As always, if there's anything you need, reach out directly to union organizer Tim Martell or call the office at 609-275-6020.
