Job Cuts 05.14.09

The bad news continues at Dow Jones.

We've received notification from the company of 32 more lay-offs among IAPE members: 14 in South Brunswick, 8 in DC, 4 in New York, 2 each in San Francisco and Jersey City (Harborside) and 1 each in Chicago and Irving, Texas, bringing the 2009 total to 87.

At the same time, the company is expected to finalize, this week, its decision to outsource the mailroom operations in South Brunswick, New York (AOA & WFC) and Jersey City (Harborside), impacting another 16 IAPE-represented employees. All of the changes will be posted, as soon as possible, on the Layoff Update on the website.

It's personally difficult to see colleagues and co-workers lose a job — the most frustrating aspect of my job — and it's tragic to see the company discard hard-working, dedicated employees.

As always, we'll review the circumstances of each of these job cuts and do whatever is needed to ensure that IAPE-represented employees are getting everything provided by the contract.

If there's any thing you need, please send me a note, call the office (609-275-6020) or reach out directly to union organizer Tim Martell.
