Your Seniority

In the wake of the latest lay offs at Dow Jones there have been a number of concerns expressed about seniority.

Your seniority is determined by your Dow Jones hire date in relation to colleagues with the same job title, in the same department, at the same DJ work location.

Being the only employee in your job title in your department at your location means you're a seniority pool of one.

We've tried to change the rules in past contract bargaining — and we'll try again in the next round of talks — but in the meantime, title-department-location is the rule.

Before you accept any promotion, transfer or relocation be aware of how that'll impact your seniority — and raise your concerns with both your union and your manager.

If you have any questions reach out to your location director or union organizer Tim Martell at the IAPE office.
