Bargaining Update: 07.24.07

Our off-the-record effort to reach a speedy agreement with Dow Jones, which has been going on for three weeks, has broken down.

Management negotiators weren't willing to come close to what we needed to achieve in such vital areas as healthcare and pay— and that leaves a large gulf between what we need and what they are willing to offer.

We have stopped negotiating off the record, and will resume on-the-record talks next week.

The message here is that Dow Jones remains unwilling to offer us a fair contract unless we are prepared to continue demonstrating our unity and our determination. If we want this, we will have to keep fighting for it.

We will stay in touch with you as negotiations continue. In the meantime, we welcome your thoughts.
