Holiday Pay
Your IAPE contract recognizes eight U.S. holidays. U.S. members working at Dow Jones get days off on New Year's Day, Washington's Birthday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. The company also recognizes MLK's birthday, but if The Journal is published on that day, members receive an extra floating holiday.
Canadian Dow Jones employees receive nine holidays — New Year's, Good Friday, Victoria Day, Canada Day, Labour Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Boxing Day, and a day recognized by the Federal Government as a civic holiday (St. Jean Baptiste Day, Ontario Day, etc.) — but only receive two floaters, while U.S. members receive three.
For those IAPE-represented employees at Factiva, there's an extra holiday provided in the contract: the day after Thanksgiving.
As far as Holiday Pay is concerned, if you work on a Holiday you get time-and-a-half for your regular shift (double-time for anything beyond your regular shift) AND another day off or another day's pay.
